How to Enter Whirlpool Duet Dryer Diagnostic Mode?

The very first step in order to deal with the error codes is to be able to enter the diagnostic mode. Luckily, in Whirlpool Duet Dryer you can enter the Diagnostic Mode by two ways. I will be explaining them below.

  1. Any Selector Diagnostic

This is the most commonly used technique for putting your Whirlpool dryer in the diagnostic mode. Follow the below steps in order to carry out this method successfully.

Step 1 – Put the Dryer on Standby Mode

Your dryer’s power cord should be plugged in the power outlet and all the indicator switches should be off except for the “Done” indicator.

Step 2 – Button Selection

Choose any button other than Pause/Cancel or Lock/Unlock.

Step 3 – Press Hold and Release

Press the chosen button for 3 seconds and then release it. Wait for 3 seconds before moving on to the next step.

Step 4 – Repetition of Step 3

Repeat step 3 and keep waiting for your dryer to enter the diagnostic mode.

You can make a confirmation regarding the successful entrance of your dryer in the diagnostic mode if all the indicators display 8:88 for 5 seconds along with the projected remaining time.

In case of possible faults, the display will show them accordingly. But if there are no faults then the indicator will turn off before 8:88 remains on display.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer Diagnostic Codes

After you have successfully entered the diagnostic mode, you will most likely witness an error code if there is something wrong with your dryer. Ways to interpret and solve these error codes have been mentioned below.

  1. PF

The error code PF occurs when there is a power failure during the working of your dryer.

Fix Method

Stop the dryer by pressing the STOP button and then continue the cycle by pressing the START button. If this doesn’t work then take a multimeter and check the power cord for possible damages. If damages are found then you have to replace the power cord with a new one.

  1. LF

The error code LF occurs when the lint filter is either absent or damaged. Presence of damaged wiring harness could also be the reason for the occurrence of this code.

Fix Method

Look for damaged harness and replace it. Check the lint filter as well and make sure to replace it if it has become faulty or reinstall it if it is absent.

  1. F01 or F1E1

The error codes F01 or F1E1 occur when there is a huge issue with the main control board.

Fix Method

Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes and then restart it afterwards. If the error code still doesn’t go away then try replacing it with a new one.

  1. F02 or F2E2

The error codes F02 or F2E2 occur when either the user interface is faulty or there is a stuck keypad.

Fix Method

Check all the keys present on the keypad. If any key is stuck then you need to free it. If the problem is within the UI then you need to make a replacement for it.

  1. F22, F23, F3E1 or F3E2

The error codes F22, F23, F3E1 or F3E2 occur if there is a faulty outlet thermistor present. You can check the working by using an ohm-meter or a multimeter.

Fix Method

Check the thermistor’s resistance. If it is below 10,000 ohms then you need to replace it.

  1. F24 or F25

The error codes F24 or F25 occur when there is an issue with the inlet thermistor.

Fix Method

Check the thermistor’ resistance, if it is below 50,000 ohms then you need to replace the thermistor whatsoever.

  1. F28, F29 or F3E7

The error codes F28, F29 or F3E7 occur when there is a defective moisture sensor present.

Fix Method

Unplug your dryer and check the motion sensor. If there is nothing wrong with the wiring then the problem is lying in the moisture sensor. The solution is to replace it.

  1. F30, F4E3 or AF

The error codes F30, F4E3 or AF occur where there is an adequate airflow which is mostly due to the presence of clogged lint screens.

Fix Method

Make sure to clean the air duct and lint screen thoroughly to improve the air flow. In addition to this, don’t use too much fabric softener as it can also cause clogging.

  1. F72 to F78

The error codes from F72 to F78 occur when there is a malfunctioning user interface assembly present.

Fix Method

First check the wire harness. If there is nothing wrong with it then you need to replace the UI assembly.

  1. F4E4 or L2

The error codes F4E4 or L2 occur when there is a low line voltage. This could happen due to faulty power cord, tripped breaker, failed main control or loose wiring.

Fix Method

The tripped breaker needs to be reset whereas the defective power cord needs to be replaced. Reconnect the loose wiring or consider replacing the main control if there is no other issue present.

  1. F9E1

The error code F9E1 occurs when there is an issue present with the drain system of the dryer. The issue is mostly due to blockage or stuck float switches.

Fix Method

Examine the float switch and see if it is stuck or not. If it is then of course you need to free it. Along with this, check the drainage system as well for the blockages. Unblock the drains and replace the pump if faulty.

  1. F6E1 or F6E2

The error code F6E1 or F6E2 occurs when there is a communication failure between the main control and user interface. This happens due to lose or damaged wire harnesses.

Fix Method

Check the wiring harness properly. If it is loose then reconnect it and if it is damaged then replace it. But if it is none then replace the whole control board.

  1. F3E8 or F3E9

The error codes F3E8 or F3E9 occur when the compressor thermistor has been malfunctioning.

Fix Method

Take an ohm meter and test the compressor thermistor’s resistance. If it is less than 10,000 ohms then replace the thermistor.

  1. F4E1

The error code F4E1 occurs when there is a problem with the heater relay. Problem is usually associated with the defective main control or damaged wiring harness.

Fix Method

Reconnect the wires which seem to be loose. If they are faulty then replace them. However, if there is a problem with the control board then replace it as well.
